20 years of loyalty with Scandinavian Airlines

April 26, 2012 17:00

SAS’ loyalty program, EuroBonus, celebrates 20 years tomorrow, April 27, by giving out 400,000 points to passengers on 20 random flights. In total, over a million points have been up for grabs for its members as part of various competitions and campaigns.

“SAS was one of the first airlines in the world to launch a loyalty program back in 1992. Today we are one of Scandinavia’s leading and most popular loyalty programs with over 80 partners, which means we can offer our three million members a wide range of benefits and opportunities. We are grateful for our customers’ loyalty and we continuously strive to improve EuroBonus to ensure it is one of the best and most rewarding loyalty programs in the industry,” says Rickard Gustafson, CEO, SAS.

On 20 SAS flights today, customers onboard will compete to win 20,000 EuroBonus points, hotel nights at Scandic and car rental from Sixt. Two of these flights will be operated by SAS subsidiary Blue1. More than 8000 suggestions on how to celebrate its 20 year anniversary have come directly from EuroBonus members, many of which will be used for the onboard celebrations.

More than 100,000 members have been active since the launch, of which 2500 have retained a Gold status every year. EuroBonus’ millionth member joined in 1997 and this year the third million member is expected to join. Anders is the most common name amongst Swedish members, whilst it is Peter in Denmark and Bjørn in Norway.

Most popular to redeem points for is flights, hotel stays and upgrades. Favored destination amongst EuroBonus members is New York, followed by Copenhagen, London, Paris, Rome and Nice. Of all award bookings, 80% are made online. For more information, please contact:
