SAS first airline in the world to carry out same-sex wedding in the air

Scandinavian Airlines today became the first airline in the world to carry out both a gay and lesbian wedding in the air onboard SK903 between Stockholm and New York. The unique flight followed the airlines’ hugely successful social media campaign Love is in the air (www.flysas.com/love (http://www.flysas.com/love)), where over 300 couples competed to be the first same-sex couple in the air.

SAS and Singapore Airlines enter code-share agreement

SAS will enter into a code-share agreement with Singapore Airlines on December 1. SAS will then add its SK prefix on Singapore Airlines’ Copenhagen-Singapore and Singapore-Bangkok routes, while the SQ prefix will be added onto SAS’ flights from Copenhagen to Helsinki, Oslo and Stockholm.

More efficient flights at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport

On 1 January 2015, it will be possible to predict to the minute the landing time of an aircraft, when it will arrive at and leave the gate and when it will take off again. This in turn will lead to even better punctuality, reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions. Together, Stockholm-Arlanda Airport, Swedish air navigation services (LFV) and SAS Scandinavian Airlines are going to make this happen.

Avianca-Taca and Copa Airlines to join Star Alliance

Star Alliance, of which SAS is a proud founding member, announced today that it will be expanding its presence in Latin America following the unanimous approval by its Chief Executive Board (CEB), to accept both Avianca-TACA and Copa Airlines as future member airlines.

Star Alliance offers multiple fare products online

Star Alliance, the way the Earth Connects, is the first aviation alliance to sell multiple fare products on the internet. In addition to the Round-the-World Fare, all Star Alliance Circle Fares can now be booked and purchased on www.staralliance.com (http://www.staralliance.com/). This allows customers to plan their journeys from the comfort of their own home, 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Bookings can be made anywhere in the world, with tickets being automatically issued electronically. The booking engine is currently available in English and Japanese, with further languages to be added at a future stage.

SAS and Icelandair enter code-share agreement

SAS and Icelandair have entered into a partnership agreement that includes code-share on a number of routes, providing better connections to and from Iceland, and reciprocal frequent flyer benefits. The partnership comes into effect November 8, and includes code-share on routes beyond SAS’ hubs of Copenhagen and Stockholm to Berlin, Gothenburg, Hamburg, Milan, Munich, Vilnius, Zurich and Warsaw.

SAS to offer internet onboard both short- and long-haul routes

Scandinavian Airlines will become one of the first airlines in the world to offer in-flight connectivity, such as internet and mobile services, on both European and intercontinental routes. The service will be offered free of charge to Business class and Economy Extra customers, and as a fee-based option in Economy.

Scandinavian Airlines set on expansion, adds number of long-haul and European routes

SAS will expand its route network with two new long-haul routes. Oslo-New York will commence end-March 2011, whilst Copenhagen-Shanghai will start during winter 2011. In addition, SAS will also launch a number of new European routes, as well as significantly increase frequency across its key short haul routes by 150 new weekly departures.

SAS is now the world’s most punctual airline

Scandinavian Airlines continued its streak as Europe’s most punctual airline, but for August, the airline managed to grab the position as the world’s most punctual airline. Last month, 92.82% of SAS’ 15,607 flights arrived on time, putting SAS far ahead of its European and American competitors. Only three Asian airlines (Korean Air Lines, ANA and Japan Airlines) managed a punctuality record above 90%.

SAS and Star Alliance have launched the new Brazil air pass, which allows travel to 45 destinations in Brazil. The routing can be freely selected and needs to cover between four and nine flight coupons. Each city may be visited only once, although connecting flights through the same airport are permitted. The fare varies according to the number of coupons purchased and available booking class, and ranges from US$133 to US$212 per coupon (excluding fees, taxes and surcharges).
