Scandinavian Airlines launches Internet and GSM onboard

Scandinavian Airlines (http://www.flysas.com) was one of the first airline companies in the world to offer its customers wireless Internet onboard their flights back in 2004. Now Scandinavian Airlines is once again allowing their passengers to be connected onboard their flights. With SASWiFi they will be able to surf the Internet and use their GSM phones. The first plane to be equipped with SASWiFi will be in the air in a few days.

SAS Crew Guide is one of the best apps of 2011

Earlier this year Scandinavian Airlines (http://www.flysas.com) released its Crew Guide app, a destination guide to New York. It became a major success, with Apple naming it App of the Week. Apple has now judged SAS Crew Guide to be one of the best apps in the ‘Travel’ category in Scandinavia for the whole of 2011. SAS has also updated its Crew Guide, adding two new destinations, Chicago and London. It can be downloaded for iPhone and will soon be available for Android as well.

SAS’ Economy Extra named the world’s best

Scandinavian Airlines’ long-haul premium economy offering, Economy Extra, has been named the world’s best in a new survey by Global Traveler. Over 36,000 frequent travelers participated, of which almost all travel in a service class other than Economy. SAS placed first in the category Best Airline for Premium Economy with its Economy Extra class. SAS was one of the first airlines in the world to introduce a premium economy back in 2001, and it is available on all long-haul flights between Scandinavia and Asia and the US.

SAS orders new short-haul seats

Scandinavian Airlines has ordered new seats for its shorth-haul fleet. The next generation seats from Recaro offer improved comfort for customers, who get additional leg room, whilst the lightweight seats weigh less and are thereby better for the environment. During 2012, eight Boeing 737-800 aircraft will be refitted with the new seats, a total of 1484 seats, and SAS thereafter plans to install the seats on further aircraft the following year.

SAS launches 21 new routes

SAS is giving its customers 21 new destinations to choose from when the 2012 summer schedule comes into operation in March next year. In doing so, Scandinavia's largest airline continues to offer Scandinavians a wide range of sought-after and in-demand travel destinations just when most people are going on vacation.

Star Alliance named Best Airline Alliance

Star Alliance, which was co-founded by Scandinavian Airlines, was voted Best Airline Alliance at the Business Traveller Awards held in London last week for the sixth consecutive time.

Joakim Landholm named new Head of Commercial at SAS

Following Scandinavian Airlines CEO Rickard Gustafson presenting the company’s new strategic direction earlier this month, which included its current Commercial department being split into two departments – Commercial and Marketing & Sales – the new head of Commercial has now been appointed. Joakim Landholm will take on the responsibility as Head of Commercial, and he will also be a member of SAS’ group management team.

SAS is the world’s most punctual airline

Scandinavian Airlines was the world’s most punctual airline in July, with 91.48% of all flights arriving on time. For the past three years SAS has been Europe’s most punctual airline in the major airlines category, which includes airlines with at least 30,000 flights a year. SAS’ Norwegian subsidiary Widerøe, which is considered a minor airline, was Europe’s most punctual airline overall, with 91.5%. It was the first time two SAS Group airlines claimed the two top spots at the same time.

SAS continues to grow and has the highest customer satisfaction in 11 years after having reduced costs by a quarter

Following last autumn’s decision to expand, SAS has started 13 new routes this year and an additional four new routes will be introduced this coming autumn. SAS will also launch its second long haul route within a year next March with Copenhagen-Shanghai. At the same time, the customer satisfaction has reached its highest level in 11 years and in June, SAS passenger load factor was at a record high.

The SAS Group has today placed an order for 30 Airbus A320neo with an option of an additional 11 Airbus A320neo with first delivery from the second half of 2016 and final delivery during 2019.

SAS launches Smart Pass across Scandinavia

Scandinavian Airlines continues to make it smoother and more time-efficient for its customers as the SAS Smart Pass will roll out across Scandinavia this fall. SAS is thereby one of the first airlines in the world to offer a mobile NFC (Near Field Communication) solution to quicker pass through the airport.

SAS launches Copenhagen-Shanghai in March 2012

Scandinavian Airlines will launch its new Copenhagen-Shanghai March 1, 2012. The five weekly service will offer short and smooth connections time from all over Scandinavia and European destinations such as London, Munich, Paris, Berlin, Warsaw, Vienna and the Baltic capitals to Shanghai. From Shanghai, both SAS partners Air China and Shanghai Airlines offer a wide range of onward destinations, specifically in Southern China, but also across Asia.

SAS signs code-share agreement with ANA

  Scandinavian Airlines has signed a code-share agreement with Star Alliance partner ANA of Japan. The agreement was signed between Shinichiro Ito, President and CEO of ANA, and Rickard Gustafson, President and CEO of Scandinavian Airlines, in Tokyo yesterday.

SAS and Star Alliance offers Micronesia Airpass

SAS and Star Alliance has added a further fare product for customers to explore additional islands in the Pacific Ocean. With the Micronesia Airpass, customers can purchase up to 10 flights on SAS' partners Continental Airlines and United's network across Micronesia, all in a single ticket at an attractive price. Travel on the Micronesia Airpass can commence from SAS destination Tokyo or any Star Alliance destination in Japan, as well as from Cairns, Guam, Hong Kong, Manila, Nadi, Palau or Saipan and is available only in conjunction with an international Star Alliance flight into any of these destinations.

EuroBonus members can now also upgrade on Air Canada, TAM and US Airways

SAS’ EuroBonus members can now also use their points to upgrade when travelling on Air Canada, TAM and US Airways. These member carriers are now participating in the unique Star Alliance Upgrade Awards programme, the redemption option enabling customers to use miles or points from their Frequent Flyer Programme (FFP) accounts for one-class upgrades on scheduled flights operated by the participating Star Alliance member carriers. This means that all member carriers based in the Americas are now participating in the programme.

SAS nominated as both the world’s and Europe’s most punctual airline

Scandinavian Airlines has been nominated in two categories of Flightstats’ annual On-Time Performance Service Awards: Arrival Performance among Major International Airlines and Arrival Performance among Major European Airlines. In the International Airlines category, SAS is the only airline outside the AsiaPacific region to be included.
