Economic impact of the Q400 grounding

September 12, 2007 12:54

The SAS Group today decided to ground its entire fleet of 27 Dash 8-400 (Q400) after accidents involving the landing gear. The aircraft operates on Swedish domestic, Danish domestic as well as internationally. In addition it is operated by Widerøe in Norway. The 27 aircraft constitutes approximately 10% of the total SAS Group fleet which includes 301 aircrafts.

It is not possible to, at this time, to assess how long the grounding will be in effect, but the SAS group will do everything possible to mitigate the negative consequences for the passengers. Possible actions include the possibility of leasing in extra aircraft capacity in the aircraft market, changing the network etc.

As long as the grounding is in effect the negative impact on the SAS Group result is around 10-15MSEK per day. This number takes into account revenue loss, fixed cost and negative feeder effects. For further information, contact Head of IR Vice President Sture Stölen + 46 70 997 1451
