SAS creates change in travel distribution dynamics

August 26, 2005 15:52

Over several months, Scandinavian Airlines has negotiated with the Global Distribution Systems (GDSs) to obtain lower distribution costs. Today, SAS and Amadeus have agreed to provide travel agents in Scandinavia the option to access comprehensive and complete content while addressing SAS’ concerns.

“In the current business climate, the airlines must constantly review their costs,” says Robin Kamark, SVP Airline Commercial in SAS.

“The cost of distribution is a significant factor. We are therefore seeking new means to reduce these cost elements to a competitive level, while giving the market full access to SAS’ products. The scheme agreed with Amadeus is a step in the right direction.” he adds.

As previously communicated, SAS will alter its current full content strategy as of October 1st, 2005 across the board in order to introduce change in the business model. SAS continues negotiations with other GDSs and looks forward to reaching final agreements before this deadline.
