Definition of terms used in operational statistics

Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPK)

The number of revenue passengers carried times distance in kilometers.

Available Seat Kilometers (ASK)

The number of seats available for the transportation of passengers times distance in kilometers.

Passenger Cabin Factor (or Passenger Load Factor)

RPK divided by ASK and expressed as a percentage. Describes the utilization level of available seats.

Yield

Passenger revenue divided by scheduled RPK.

PASK

Passenger revenue divided by scheduled ASK.

Passengers

Total number of passengers are defined as ‘segment passengers’. For example, a passenger flying Oslo-Copenhagen-Warsaw is counted twice with the exception that if the flight number is maintained from one segement to the next, then the passenger will be counted only once.
