Your Journey to Becoming a SAS Pilot

Below you’ll find a brief explanation of each step in the recruitment process. You can expand each section to learn more about what to expect.

Application

Submit your application online by selecting the pilot role that best matches your experience and qualifications.

Initial Screening

We review licences, flight experience and documentation to ensure basic eligibility. Selected candidates will be invited to complete initial screening activities, which can include:

  • Short prerecorded video interview

  • Personality assessment

  • Cognitive / quantitative assessment

These steps help us gain an initial understanding of your background and suitability.

Online Interview

Candidates who pass the initial screening will be invited to an online interview with our recruitment team to discuss experience, motivation and expectations

Assessment Day

The assessment day includes:

  • Welcome and introduction

  • Group exercise

  • Simulator assessment, PF/PM

  • Personal interview

You will receive detailed information and preparation material ahead of the assessment.

Offer & Holding Pool

Candidates who successfully complete the assessment may receive an offer of employment or be placed in a holding pool until a suitable position becomes available.

Time in the holding pool can vary depending on operational needs, candidate experience, notice period and base preferences.

Offer, Onboarding & Pre-employment Checks

After accepting an offer, the onboarding process begins. As part of this stage, candidates will be asked to provide personal information required for contract preparation.

In parallel, the following pre-employment steps apply:

  • Drug & Alcohol test

  • Background check covering the past five years

  • Initial security interview

Prior to starting employment, pilots must hold a valid Scandinavian flight crew licence. Candidates who do not already hold a Scandinavian licence will be required to complete the licence conversion before their start date.

As part of the background check, candidates must provide criminal record certificates for all countries in which they have resided during the past five years. Please note that obtaining these documents can take more than 30 days in some countries.

Successful completion of these steps is required before employment can commence.

Start at SAS

Your first day at SAS typically begins with an introduction day at your base. The day is hosted by your new manager and attended together with other new colleagues, providing an introduction to SAS, your base and the start of your onboarding journey.

How we assess

Our recruitment process is designed to assess both technical capability and non-technical skills relevant to safe and professional flight operations. Throughout the process, we focus on how candidates reason, communicate, work with others and reflect on their own performance.

What we look for in SAS pilots

We are looking for pilots who demonstrate strong professionalism, sound judgement and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

We value safety awareness, clear communication, self-reflection and a constructive approach to learning and development.

Above all, we look for individuals who share our commitment to safe, reliable operations and who will contribute positively to the SAS cockpit culture.

If you believe you have what we are looking for, we would be pleased to receive your application.
