April 19, 2011 18:00

SAS and Star Alliance has added a further fare product for customers to explore additional islands in the Pacific Ocean. With the Micronesia Airpass, customers can purchase up to 10 flights on SAS’ partners Continental Airlines and United’s network across Micronesia, all in a single ticket at an attractive price. Travel on the Micronesia Airpass can commence from SAS destination Tokyo or any Star Alliance destination in Japan, as well as from Cairns, Guam, Hong Kong, Manila, Nadi, Palau or Saipan and is available only in conjunction with an international Star Alliance flight into any of these destinations.Micronesia consists of more than 2000 islands scattered across the North Pacific and is an ideal location for many types of water sports, such as scuba diving, surfing, kayaking or fishing. Star
Alliance member carriers Continental Airlines and United offer the most comprehensive airline network in Micronesia. In addition to Guam, customers can choose to travel to: Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, and Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia; Kwajalein Atoll and Majuro in the Marshall Islands; Rota and Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands as well as Palau.

Christopher Korenke, Vice President Commercial, Star Alliance said: “The Micronesia Airpass again demonstrates the benefits only an airline alliance can provide. Travellers visiting Micronesia in the past had limited choice of air travel and had to purchase separate tickets on different airlines to get to this part of the world. Through the Star Alliance network, passengers can now travel on any of the member carriers serving the designated gateways and connect to the Continental Airlines and United network in Micronesia, all at excellent value for money.”

Fares are set according to booking class and distance travelled, starting at US$ 75* for flights up to 150 miles and rising to US$ 375* for flights covering between 2001 and 2250 miles. Itineraries can cover economy class travel of up to three months, must comprise at least three flights and need to include at least two 24 hour stops at different destinations.

Customers interested in purchasing a Micronesia Airpass should contact any Star Alliance member carrier or their travel agent. Further information can also be found on www.staralliance.com (http://www.staralliance.com)
