SAS launches new route between Copenhagen and Mumbai

June 25, 2025 11:00

SAS is expanding its intercontinental network with a new year-round route between Copenhagen and Mumbai, reinforcing its position at Copenhagen Airport and opening access to one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. The route strengthens ties between India and Scandinavia, with smooth transfers to Europe and North America.

Starting June 2, 2026, SAS will operate five weekly flights with an Airbus A330, offering nonstop service between Scandinavia and India’s financial capital. This marks SAS’ return to India after 17 years — a move that underlines the airline’s ambition to grow its intercontinental network and reinforce its position as a key player in international aviation.

India is a key global market — both in terms of growing demand and economic importance. With this new route, SAS contributes to strengthening Copenhagen’s role as a global hub while supporting increased connectivity between India and Northern Europe, as well as between India and North America,” says Anko van der Werff, President & CEO of SAS. “Mumbai is a natural next step in our strategy to link Scandinavia with one of the world’s most important regions for business and leisure travel.”

Mumbai, often called the “City of Dreams,” is home to more than 20 million people and plays a central role in India’s economy. Known for its energy, colour and diversity, the city also attracts travelers seeking rich cultural encounters, culinary adventures and wellness getaways. With strong Scandinavian business ties in the region and growing travel demand, this route is a strategically important addition to SAS’ network — strengthening our global relevance and expanding our reach.

Flight times are designed to support smooth transfers to and from major destinations in Scandinavia, Europe, and North America — including New York, Boston, and Toronto — offering very good connecting times for travelers heading to or from India.

Following its emergence as a more focused and resilient carrier, SAS continues to invest in future growth through long-haul expansion, quality service, and an ever more connected route network.

The airline was recently named the world’s most punctual by Cirium for two consecutive months, highlighting its commitment to reliability across a growing global network.

This new route is subject to final governmental approval.
