SAS has once again been ranked number 1 in the airline category in Denmark and Sweden in the Sustainable Brand Index 2026, Europe’s largest independent study of consumer perceptions related to sustainability. The recognition comes at a time when the aviation industry is working to accelerate the transition toward alternatives to conventional jet fuel.

The ranking reflects Danish and Swedish consumers’ perception of SAS in relation to environmental and social responsibility. Based on extensive consumer surveys, the index measures public perception rather than documented sustainability performance.

In both countries, SAS has consistently ranked at the top of the airline category, reflecting continued consumer trust in the company’s long-term efforts across areas such as fleet renewal, operational efficiency, and partnerships supporting the development of future energy pathways for aviation.

At the same time, recent geopolitical developments and rising fuel prices underline how exposed aviation remains to global energy volatility. The situation highlights the continued dependence on conventional jet fuel and reinforces the importance of accelerating Europe’s efforts to develop credible alternatives and strengthen long-term energy resilience.

For SAS, this includes engagement in partnerships across Scandinavia aimed at supporting the development of Power-to-X and future fuel pathways linked to renewable electricity. These initiatives are intended to contribute to a broader industrial ecosystem over time while helping reduce dependence on imported fossil energy.

“We appreciate the continued trust reflected in this ranking. But aviation remains exposed to global energy volatility, and recent developments underline how important long term energy resilience has become for Europe. For our industry, that means continuing to support the development of credible alternatives and stronger energy systems over time,” says Mads Brandstrup, Senior Vice President Communication, Public Affairs and Sustainability at SAS.

SAS continues to focus on tangible measures such as:

  • Fleet renewal and operational improvements supporting lower fuel consumption

  • Partnerships supporting future energy pathways in Denmark, Sweden and Norway

  • Operational measures improving efficiency across flight, ground and technical activities
