SAS Trends: Solo travelling

Data from SAS shows that more and more Swedes are now choosing to explore the world on their own. Additional reports covering multiple markets confirm that solo travel is on the rise and that the demand for “trips for one” is growing.

Women in particular are showing increased interest in solo travel and are venturing out alone more than before. According to a U.S. survey by Future Partners, nearly 40% of female travelers express an interest in traveling solo in 2025, which is an 8% increase compared to the previous year.

SAS figures now also confirm a rise in solo travel among Swedes in recent years – with the sharpest increase seen among women. The number of bookings made by female travelers has increased by approximately 45% over the past decade.

“Solo travel has many benefits and suits both those looking for total relaxation and those wanting to be social and meet new people during their vacation. We see clear growth in this customer group. For one, more adults are living alone, which naturally leads to an increase in solo travelers. In addition, traveling alone has become more accepted, and more destinations now offer social environments where travelers can meet like-minded people. A good example is our new destination, Seoul, which was recently named the world’s best city for solo travelers by Tripadvisor,” says Thomas Thessen, Chief Analyst at SAS.
