New Nordic by SAS goes vegan

SAS achieves four out of a possible five stars in global customer ranking. Overall flight experience, seat comfort, cabin service and entertainment are some of the categories that were rated by travelers using the TripIt app. The award is presented by non-profit membership trade organization APEX, the Airline Passenger Experience Association.

SAS seasonal summer 2018 routes – 5 new destinations and 27 new non-stop routes from Scandinavia

SAS continues to expand its offer to and from Scandinavia and launches 27 new non-stop routes to be served from several of its hubs. The seasonal summer 2018 routes also includes five new destinations on SAS´s route map; Verona, Sarajevo, Genoa, Toulon and Beirut. In addition to this, SAS is giving its customers more access to popular destinations with expanded summer service to Portugal, Spain, Croatia and Italy. And as a response to the increased interest in leisure travel, expanded non-stop flights from several of its hubs to popular summer destinations. Flights will be available for booking starting now for travel starting March 24, 2018.

SAS expands its menu in SAS Go, focusing on the lifestyle and dietary needs of travelers

SAS AB seeking authorization for a potential directed share issue and intends to call for an Extraordinary General Meeting

In previously published interim reports, SAS AB (”SAS”) has announced that various alternative financing methods actively are being evaluated in order to reduce SAS’s financing costs. In accordance with this, SAS intends to call for an Extraordinary General Meeting, to be held on 3 November, with a proposal to authorize the Board of Directors to be able to resolve on issuing not more than 66 million common shares with disapplication of the shareholders’ preferential rights, corresponding to nearly 20 % of the total number of common shares in issue. SAS’s main shareholders are expected to support the Board of Directors’ proposal for an authorization. The Board has not resolved on utilizing a potential authorization, but would, pursuant to the evaluation of alternative financing methods, wish to have the possibility to pass such resolution if the market conditions and other conditions are favourable. SAS’s main shareholders have, provided that the proposal is approved by the Extraordinary General Meeting, stated that they will not sell any SAS shares during a period of 90 days from the date of a potential directed share issue, however not beyond the date of the next Annual General Meeting.

SAS opens route from Stockholm to Chambéry in the French Alps

During the 2018 skiing season, SAS will open a new route from Stockholm to Chambéry in the French Alps. Chambéry Airport is the closest airport to get to and from popular ski resorts such as Val d’lsere and Val Thorens. 

Premiere for the new SAS food and drinks concept – “New Nordic by SAS”

SAS is now launching “New Nordic by SAS” - a food concept whose inspiration comes from our passengers and the Nordic food philosophy where local, seasonal ingredients are key. With the focus on function, quality, taste and design, every SAS passenger will now be offered a selection of taste experiences based on fresh, local ingredients and pure flavors in new pared down packaging designed for life onboard. SAS to fly direct from Stockholm to Miami from October

Today sees the launch of another direct route to the USA, which will be added to the SAS winter timetable for 2017. The route between Stockholm and Miami complements the departures from Copenhagen and Oslo. SAS is also replacing the aircraft on the Copenhagen-Boston route with an SAS A330-300 featuring the new SAS cabin.

SAS launches first part of a new food and beverage concept

SAS is launching new snack and beverage products on its routes within Scandinavia and Europe. The products are part of a wider refresh of SAS’ food and beverage range with a focus on natural ingredients and high quality from local producers. SAS transfers two landing and take-off rights (”slot-pairs”) at London Heathrow and generates a positive earnings impact of MUSD 75

SAS has entered into a slot transaction at London Heathrow whereby two slot-pairs have been transferred. The transaction will generate a positive earnings impact of the equivalent of MUSD 75 for SAS to be accounted for during the second quarter of the fiscal year 2016/2017 with a corresponding cash effect during the fiscal year 2016/2017.

Scandinavian Airlines: Let the summer begin

On Sunday 26 March, SAS’ summer timetable for 2017 will take off with new and exciting destinations. SAS is launching a total of seven new year-round routes and ten summer peak-season routes from Scandinavia. SAS is also increasing the number of departures to many popular destinations over the summer, with a total of 390,000 additional seats to Spain, Portugal and Croatia.

SAS and Wideroe have signed a new agreement with Statoil regarding the company’s domestic and international flights. The agreement covers a period of five years, including options.

SAS enters agreement to sell Cimber and 11 CRJ900s

SAS has signed an agreement for the sale of Cimber A/S to CityJet and sale of 11 CRJ900 aircraft. The divestment is part of SAS's strategy to use strategic partners, so-called wet lease, in smaller traffic flows and regional traffic. When the transaction is completed as planned on January 31, 2017, CityJet will place an order for up to ten completely new CRJ900s, which will be used in wet lease production for SAS.

Summer Program: SAS opens 15 new routes

SAS is continuing to expand and strengthen its holiday destination offer to Scandinavian frequent flyers. When the 2017 summer program starts, SAS will open six new all year routes from Scandinavia. SAS cancels flights also on Tuesday due to continued pilot strike

Also on Tuesday, flights operated by SAS with Swedish pilots will be cancelled due to a continued pilot strike. The Swedish pilot union has turned down a second bid by the mediator, which SAS accepted. Flights, operated with Danish and Norwegian pilots, as well as with our partner airlines, are planned to operate as normal. Passengers are advised to go to flysas.com for more information. On Tuesday this affects another 240 flights and 25 500 passengers.

The Swedish pilot union has called 400 members on short haul flights out on strike. Both domestic and European flights from Sweden are cancelled, affecting many thousand passengers. Long-haul flights from Sweden to the US will continue to proceed as planned. The strike breaks out after that the pilot association has rejected the mediators’ proposal for an agreement.

SAS has reached an agreement with the Norwegian pilots’ unions

The negotiations between SAS and the pilots' unions NSF and SNF in Norway have been concluded. The parties have agreed to new collective bargaining agreements and all SAS-flights to, from and in Norway will depart as scheduled.

SAS to retain ground handling operations at the main airports

In line with the letter of intent signed in September 2015, SAS and Aviator Airport Alliance Europe AB (Aviator) have agreed to continue negotiations in respect of the transfer of SAS Ground Handling’s line stations in Gothenburg and Malmö to Aviator. However, SAS has decided not to outsource ground handling at the main airports of Copenhagen, Oslo, and Stockholm.

SAS opens new Boston route today

Today, SAS will be opening its ninth direct route to the USA, taking the number of flights operated by the company each year between Scandinavia and the USA to 6,800, carrying some 1.6 million passengers. This new development further strengthens SAS’s position as the airline with the most robust offering from Scandinavia to North America.

SAS and Apollo agree contract worth SEK 1.1 billion

SAS has extended its contract with Apollo for charter flights within Europe. The contract is worth SEK 1.1 billion and covers the summer- and winter season 2016–2017. This partnership means that SAS will take care of Apollo’s customers from 17 locations in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway to 30 destinations in Europe.

SAS ready for take-off to Los Angeles

Today, SAS’ very first flight from Stockholm to Los Angeles takes off. It is SAS’ 5th direct route to the US and a part of the airline’s major long distance investment. The route Copenhagen – Boston will start up in the end of March and in September SAS will start operating to Miami from both Copenhagen and Oslo. SAS’ new long haul cabins have received excellent reviews from the customers, and include features such as a new entertainment system and Wi-Fi in all classes.

Scandinavia’s largest and most influential airline Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is opening for sales of tickets to two new Scandinavian destinations from Miami. SAS introduces new daily service Boston-Copenhagen

Starting with its summer 2016 program, SAS is launching yet another year round service between the US and Scandinavia. From late March 2016, SAS will operate daily nonstop flights between Copenhagen and Boston. As such, SAS will be the first carrier to fly directly to Boston from Scandinavia.

Since SAS launched a major new initiative to develop its loyalty program SAS EuroBonus two years ago, the number of members has rapidly grown. There are now four million EuroBonus members who can earn points when buying everything from flights, hotels and rental cars to banking services and food purchases and gain benefits and services that make their travel simpler and better. The new member who took SAS EuroBonus past this magical mark is Stig Christiansen from Norway. 

SAS expands with new direct routes to USA

SAS is expanding and opening three new direct routes to USA in 2016. The new routes being launched are Los Angeles from Stockholm, Miami from Oslo and Miami from Copenhagen. SAS is also increasing the number of departures from Stockholm to New York and Chicago and between Copenhagen and Shanghai. That means that SAS will now offer over 330,000 additional seats on its intercontinental routes in 2016.

SAS Go Light – for those who travel light

On 8 September, SAS will be introducing a new concept - SAS Go Light. Expansion: SAS increases flights to USA and Asia

To meet increased demand for flights to USA and Asia, SAS is increasing the number of departures to seven a week from Stockholm to Chicago and seven a week from Copenhagen to Shanghai. The new departures are part of the SAS plan to expand its long haul fleet network that also includes opening all-new routes.

SAS Interim report November 2014 – April 2015

SAS’s commercial initiatives deliver results. SAS posted an income before tax and nonrecurring items of MSEK -331 for the second quarter, representing a substantial year-on-year improvement in earnings. This improvement was primarily driven by a positive trend for unit revenue, which climbed 6.8%.

Winter program: Over half a million more SAS seats

SAS continues to open new direct routes from Scandinavian airports. Joakim Landholm has decided to leave in association with the imminent dissolution of the Transformation Department he has successfully headed. The department will be integrated into the regular line organization.

SAS has entered into an agreement with the Swedish Pilot Union (SPF)

SAS has today signed a new modern collective bargain agreement with the Swedish pilot union SPF. The negotiations have reached the targets within set timeframe and thus there will be no industrial action by the pilots in Sweden. SAS has now reached agreements with three of the four pilot unions on new contracts, which means that most of the SAS pilots are now covered by the new Scandinavian collective bargain agreement.

SAS is in the final negotiations with the Swedish pilot union SPF and the Norwegian pilot union NSF. SAS’ firm intention is to reach an agreement in the negotiations, but in case of a possible industrial action passengers will be mostly affected in Sweden from May 21.

SAS launches its summer timetable

SAS transfers an additional landing and take-off right (”slot-pair”) at London Heathrow

SAS has entered into a slot transaction with Turkish Airlines that will take over one afternoon slot-pair at London Heathrow from SAS at the beginning of the winter traffic program on 25 October 2015. The transaction will generate a positive earnings impact of MUSD 22 for SAS to be accounted for during the second quarter with a corresponding cash effect during calendar year 2015.

SAS signs agreement for regular bio-fuel powered flights

SAS has, along with the Lufthansa Group and KLM,  signed an agreement with Statoil Aviation for a regular supply of bio-fuel at Oslo Airport. SAS was first off the ground in Norway and from Stockholm Arlanda in Sweden with a bio-fuel mix around a week ago and this agreement shows the airline takes its corporate social responsibility seriously in reducing its green house gas emissions.

SAS launches new winter destinations

SAS Group (“SAS”) has today signed an agreement to sell 80% of its shares in Widerøe's Flyveselskap AS (“Widerøe”) to a group of investors consisting of Torghatten ASA, Fjord1 AS and Nordland Fylkeskommune (together referred to as the “Investor Group”). SAS will retain a 20% share in Widerøe but will have the intention to transfer full ownership of Widerøe in 2016.

Flying start for SAS app

On April 9, SAS launched its new app which can be used to book trips to all its destinations directly on a smart phone or tablet device. SAS customers can now easily book, check in, choose a seat on board and receive their mobile boarding pass on their phone or device. The SAS app has already been downloaded nearly 100,000 times and is ranked as the no 1 free app in Sweden, Denmark and Norway.  This is just one of the ways in which SAS is continuing to create innovative solutions that make traveling easier for its customers.

SAS and Jet Time sign Letter of Intent

SAS and Jet Time have signed a Letter of Intent to enter into an agreement on the wet lease of four factory-newATR72-600s. The intention is to enter into an agreement for 36 months, so that the new aircraft can be used on routes from Copenhagen and Stockholm in the SAS winter timetable 2013-14 and summer timetable 2014.

We have worked with our customers to develop these products, which meet the increasing demand for smoother and more time-efficient journeys for both leisure and business passengers.

SAS launches new route between Stockholm and Madrid

On 1 July Scandinavian Airlines launches a new route between Stockholm Arlanda and Madrid. This new route will complement the service that SAS already offers from Copenhagen to Madrid. SAS will now provide up to ten departures a week between Scandinavia and Madrid.

Swissport International Ltd. (Swissport) and Scandinavian Airline Systems (SAS) today announced they have signed a Letter of Intent. The letter creates the basis for continued negotiations between the two companies, aiming at an agreement to transfer full ownership of SAS´ Ground Handling in Denmark, Sweden and Norway to Swissport. As a first step, both parties intend to establish a joint venture company to which the business and operations of SAS ground handling and Spirit (cargo handling) will be transferred.

Effective April 8, Scandinavian Airlines and Star Alliance partner Thai Airways will expand their present code-share agreement to also cover Stockholm – Bangkok vv, Oslo – Bangkok vv and Copenhagen - Bangkok vv. Apollo is developing its partnership with SAS and has signed another million dollar agreement ahead of the winter season. SAS remains the world’s most punctual airline

Scandinavian Airlines was the world’s most punctual major airline for a second month in a row, as its punctuality improved to 92.38% for the month of May. In April, SAS had the world’s highest punctuality of all major airlines with 90.78%, being the only major airline worldwide to achieve a punctuality higher than 90%. For the past three years, SAS has also been named Europe’s most punctual airline.

Scandinavian Airlines launches Internet and GSM onboard

Scandinavian Airlines (http://www.flysas.com) was one of the first airline companies in the world to offer its customers wireless Internet onboard their flights back in 2004. Now Scandinavian Airlines is once again allowing their passengers to be connected onboard their flights. With SASWiFi they will be able to surf the Internet and use their GSM phones. The first plane to be equipped with SASWiFi will be in the air in a few days.

SAS Crew Guide is one of the best apps of 2011

Earlier this year Scandinavian Airlines (http://www.flysas.com) released its Crew Guide app, a destination guide to New York. It became a major success, with Apple naming it App of the Week. Apple has now judged SAS Crew Guide to be one of the best apps in the ‘Travel’ category in Scandinavia for the whole of 2011. SAS has also updated its Crew Guide, adding two new destinations, Chicago and London. It can be downloaded for iPhone and will soon be available for Android as well.

SAS’ Economy Extra named the world’s best

Scandinavian Airlines’ long-haul premium economy offering, Economy Extra, has been named the world’s best in a new survey by Global Traveler. Over 36,000 frequent travelers participated, of which almost all travel in a service class other than Economy. SAS placed first in the category Best Airline for Premium Economy with its Economy Extra class. SAS was one of the first airlines in the world to introduce a premium economy back in 2001, and it is available on all long-haul flights between Scandinavia and Asia and the US.

SAS orders new short-haul seats

Scandinavian Airlines has ordered new seats for its shorth-haul fleet. The next generation seats from Recaro offer improved comfort for customers, who get additional leg room, whilst the lightweight seats weigh less and are thereby better for the environment. During 2012, eight Boeing 737-800 aircraft will be refitted with the new seats, a total of 1484 seats, and SAS thereafter plans to install the seats on further aircraft the following year.

SAS is the world’s most punctual airline

Scandinavian Airlines was the world’s most punctual airline in July, with 91.48% of all flights arriving on time. For the past three years SAS has been Europe’s most punctual airline in the major airlines category, which includes airlines with at least 30,000 flights a year. SAS’ Norwegian subsidiary Widerøe, which is considered a minor airline, was Europe’s most punctual airline overall, with 91.5%. It was the first time two SAS Group airlines claimed the two top spots at the same time.

SAS continues to grow and has the highest customer satisfaction in 11 years after having reduced costs by a quarter

Following last autumn’s decision to expand, SAS has started 13 new routes this year and an additional four new routes will be introduced this coming autumn. SAS will also launch its second long haul route within a year next March with Copenhagen-Shanghai. At the same time, the customer satisfaction has reached its highest level in 11 years and in June, SAS passenger load factor was at a record high.

SAS’ EuroBonus members can now also use their points to upgrade when travelling on Air Canada, TAM and US Airways. These member carriers are now participating in the unique Star Alliance Upgrade Awards programme, the redemption option enabling customers to use miles or points from their Frequent Flyer Programme (FFP) accounts for one-class upgrades on scheduled flights operated by the participating Star Alliance member carriers. This means that all member carriers based in the Americas are now participating in the programme.

SAS first airline in the world to carry out same-sex wedding in the air

Scandinavian Airlines today became the first airline in the world to carry out both a gay and lesbian wedding in the air onboard SK903 between Stockholm and New York. The unique flight followed the airlines’ hugely successful social media campaign Love is in the air (www.flysas.com/love (http://www.flysas.com/love)), where over 300 couples competed to be the first same-sex couple in the air.

More efficient flights at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport

On 1 January 2015, it will be possible to predict to the minute the landing time of an aircraft, when it will arrive at and leave the gate and when it will take off again. This in turn will lead to even better punctuality, reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions. Together, Stockholm-Arlanda Airport, Swedish air navigation services (LFV) and SAS Scandinavian Airlines are going to make this happen.

Star Alliance offers multiple fare products online

Star Alliance, the way the Earth Connects, is the first aviation alliance to sell multiple fare products on the internet. In addition to the Round-the-World Fare, all Star Alliance Circle Fares can now be booked and purchased on www.staralliance.com (http://www.staralliance.com/). This allows customers to plan their journeys from the comfort of their own home, 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Bookings can be made anywhere in the world, with tickets being automatically issued electronically. The booking engine is currently available in English and Japanese, with further languages to be added at a future stage.

SAS and Icelandair have entered into a partnership agreement that includes code-share on a number of routes, providing better connections to and from Iceland, and reciprocal frequent flyer benefits. The partnership comes into effect November 8, and includes code-share on routes beyond SAS’ hubs of Copenhagen and Stockholm to Berlin, Gothenburg, Hamburg, Milan, Munich, Vilnius, Zurich and Warsaw.

SAS to offer internet onboard both short- and long-haul routes

Scandinavian Airlines will become one of the first airlines in the world to offer in-flight connectivity, such as internet and mobile services, on both European and intercontinental routes. The service will be offered free of charge to Business class and Economy Extra customers, and as a fee-based option in Economy.

Scandinavian Airlines set on expansion, adds number of long-haul and European routes

SAS will expand its route network with two new long-haul routes. Oslo-New York will commence end-March 2011, whilst Copenhagen-Shanghai will start during winter 2011. In addition, SAS will also launch a number of new European routes, as well as significantly increase frequency across its key short haul routes by 150 new weekly departures.

SAS and Star Alliance have launched the new Brazil air pass, which allows travel to 45 destinations in Brazil. The routing can be freely selected and needs to cover between four and nine flight coupons. Each city may be visited only once, although connecting flights through the same airport are permitted. Star Alliance launches Round the World online bookings

Star Alliance, of which SAS Scandinavian Airlines is a founding member, has today launched the new “Star Alliance Book and Fly” tool, which allows customers to plan, book and buy round the world tickets via the internet – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Up until now, it has only been possible to plan an around-the-world trip on the website, with pricing and ticketing having to be handled at airline call centres, ticket offices or travel agents. The sales channels will continue to offer the Star Alliance Round the World fare, in addition to the website.

Final results of SAS rights issue – oversubscribed by 24.2 percent

According to the final results of SAS AB’s (“SAS”) rights issue, for which the subscription period ended 6 April 2009, 2,293,533,321 shares, corresponding to 99.6 percent of the offered shares were subscribed for with subscription rights. In addition, 566,900,561 shares were subscribed for without subscription rights, corresponding to 24.6 percent of the offered shares. Of the shares subscribed for without subscription rights, 9, 466,679 shares have been allocated to subscribers based on the principles described in the prospectus published on 17 March 2009. Thus, the rights issue was oversubscribed by 24.2 percent and the underwriting commitments did not need to be utilised.

SAS to launch mobile boarding passes

As of tomorrow, SAS Scandinavian Airlines customers will be able to travel using only their mobile phone. This is in line with SAS’ focus to offer its passengers the most hassle-free travel as possible. During a trial period (15 April and 1 July), passengers can experience the simplicity of travelling with Scandinavian Airlines between any of the following seven airports: Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Helsinki, London Heathrow, Oslo, Stavanger and Stockholm.
