SAS offers additional services to Kiruna this summer

June 20, 2007 11:51

During the summer, SAS is increasing the number of flights to Kiruna from seven per week to ten per week. Children up to the age of 15 travel free of charge, making it easy for the whole family to travel to Kiruna and experience the midnight sun this summer.“We are experiencing major demand for travel to Lapland,” says Peter Nilsson, Director Domestic Routes at Scandinavian Airlines Sverige. “Accordingly, we are implementing a substantial increase in the number of departures to Kiruna this summer. During July and August, Stockholm-Kiruna will be served by 10 or 11 weekly departures, corresponding to an increase of more than 30 percent compared with summer 2006.”

Kiruna offers a magnificent and varied landscape, with everything from mountains with small, crystal-clear lakes and birch woodland to primeval forestry with cascading rivers and moors rich in berries.
Kiruna also has a unique position in the world, since the entire town is soon to be relocated, an occurrence that is unparalleled in Swedish history. This will include the relocation of Kiruna Church, which was named “Best Building of All Time, constructed before 1950.”

This summer, SAS is a partner in the campaign “Lapland free for all children age 2-15,” which is why we are providing a 100-percent children’s discount to Kiruna, which offers a broad variety of school vacation activities.

Demand for travel to Kiruna and Lapland is also extensive in other parts of the world. This winter, a direct charter route will operate between London and Kiruna. The major “Swedish Lapland” campaign is attracting tourists from throughout Europe to northern Sweden.
