May 13, 2010 18:00

As a founding member of Star Alliance™, Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) today welcomes TAM Airlines into the world’s largest airline alliance. Brazil’s largest airline offers more than 40 destinations in Brazil and another 10 destinations across South America that will now be part of the Star Alliance™ network, which now comprise 21,050 daily flights to 1,167 destinations in 181 countries.

“Brazil and South America is a growing destination amongst our customers, both for business and pleasure. As of today, our customers can access a much wider South American network, earn EuroBonus points on all TAM flights and be taken care of across South America thanks to TAM. We are therefore very pleased TAM Airlines joins Star Alliance and we hope to embark on a closer partnership between our two airlines in the very near future,” says Robin Kamark, Chief Commercial Officer, Scandinavian Airlines.

“With TAM Airlines we gain a carrier based in South America, an important aviation market and home to many growing economies. Combining TAM Airlines’ network with that of our existing member carriers will allow Star Alliance to offer a very competitive product to, from and within this region,” said Jaan Albrecht, CEO Star Alliance™.For more information, please contact:
